I make jewelry from very durable waxed polyester yarn from Linhasita, manufactured in Brazil. This yarn is very popular among micromacrame artists. The knots hold their shape, which I appreciate especially for complex patterns. It doesn't fray, can be easily sealed with fire, and has beautiful colors. This yarn is waterproof and, besides jewelry, is also used for sewing leather or shoes, for example. However, you can still take care of them so that they bring you joy for as long as possible. My jewelry is also decorated with minerals and beads, so it's better to take care of them. I'll describe the basic care procedures.
- Cleaning
- Wipe with a soft dry cloth (microfiber) to remove dust and dirt.
- For light cleaning, use a damp cloth with a little soap.
- After cleaning, let it air dry, away from direct sunlight and heaters.
2. Storage
- Store in a dry place, away from direct sunlight.
- Preferably in a cloth bag or box to prevent tangling and protect the jewelry from damage.
3. Usage
- Avoid contact with perfume, hairspray, and cleaning products.
- Minimize friction with clothing or other surfaces to prevent knots from loosening.
4. Maintenance of ends and knots
- Regularly check knots and loose ends.
- For waxed thread, the ends can be carefully singed with a lighter to seal them and prevent the thread from unraveling.
For jewelry with a mineral in the center - the mineral is firmly wrapped with knots using the Macrame technique. The mineral is held securely and tightly bound. But still, avoid friction.
I use various beads, most preferably Japanese glass TOHO, but brass beads can also be used. Both are very durable.
