I quite often get questions like how long it takes me to create a handbag or a piece of jewelry. So I decided to write an article about it here on the blog.
Honestly, I had to prepare for it, because when I create, I don't perceive time, and everything flows differently, and then I realize it's already the next day 😆
I have to admit, I don't always enjoy it, sometimes it's "hard work"...
How long does it take to make a Macrame handbag?
Creating a handbag is challenging. The beginnings are the same for all types of handbags. First, it all starts with measuring the required length of cords, which I never manage to cut to the same length 😱. That's why I always leave a margin. Next is melting the ends with fire if I'm using polyester yarn. If I skipped this step, the central threads that form the filling of the yarn would pull out. Then I prepare the space and I can create 🧚🏼. I usually give myself about 2 days for a handbag 😆. The smaller ones are, of course, faster. It also depends on the type, but it's always within 2 days. Even with documenting the production for social media.
How long does it take to create a more complex necklace?
Here it depends on the design and whether I'm doing it for the umpteenth time or for the first time...
A more complex necklace has one disadvantage, it should be symmetrical, the same on one side as on the other, so I always count and write things down. And I create it in about 3-4 hours. 😆
I really enjoy these necklaces, especially their fantasy feel.

And here's an example of how many cords I need
What about bracelets?
For bracelets, it depends on whether there's a mineral in the middle or not. If so, the production takes longer. Honestly, I don't enjoy wrapping minerals and preparing threads at all. The best part is when everything is prepared and I "just" tie knots. I think I once read somewhere that someone counted every single knot, just to see how many there were. But I really won't do that, 🤪 it would be a very high number. So a bracelet with a mineral takes me about 2 hours.
Then I make so-called simple bracelets - a bracelet that doesn't come off until it falls apart on its own 😆. Without minerals, and I make those in 15 minutes. You'll only see those at the market.
Earrings?
I can make earrings in about an hour and a half.
And generally, I only create in good light. It's worse in winter... Light greatly affects the speed of creation. Dark yarns are generally harder to work with.
The position I work in also affects the speed of creation. Sometimes I have to stand for the entire time I'm working on a handbag or belt. I try to change positions while working and take breaks.
If anything is missing from the article, let me know. 🫶
